Café de Books is a non-profit organisation, registered in Sweden but operates in Ghana and Liberia. The aim of Café de Books is to work towards increasing literacy among children in the above mentioned countries. This will be done through reading groups and access to books for registered children under 18. Everything is free of charge for the families who take part in this.
Café de Books is an NGO which was registered in Sweden in 2019. We operate in Ghana and Liberia at the moment. Our focus is to increase the literacy rate among children and youth, through reading programs for children aged 5 to 18. The children and youth will be divided into study groups according to age and level of literacy. The group will be meeting once a week, and will be lead by volonteer teachers and assistants.
Fred Asante Kotoko lives in Kasoa, Ghana, but has both a Liberian and Ghanian background. Fred Asante has a background as a child refugee, as he fled with his family during the Liberian civil war in the 1980's. He lived in Buduburam refugee camp in Ghana for many years. Fred is a graduate of Garden City University in Kumasi, Ghana with a degree in economy. Reading, movie making and improving the lives of vulnerable children are some of his passions.
Jessica Davskog lives in Sweden with her two teenage daughters. She is a graduate from Mälardalen's University in Sweden with a degree in psychology. Imrproving the lives of children worldwide is something that is close to her heart.
Alvina Davies-Asante is a mother of two who lives in Ghana. She is the secretary of Café de Books as well as one of our volunteer teachers.
